Dates for almost nothing...
Ok, some of these may be dorky for some of you, but they're things we really enjoy and most promote great conversation:
1) Play games, just the two of you, or invite a couple over to play The Farming Game. In addition to TFG, we love the Settlers of Catan. If you don't like board games...grab a deck of cards, put on some coffee, make some nachos. Yummy.
2) Go for a walk, find a spot on the river bank, pretend you're still dating. Or, go for a hike in a nearby park. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the outdoors. Bring a camera if you can...
3) Rent a movie and make some popcorn.
4) Bake or clean together. It's so much more fun when you aren't by yourself.
5) Go shopping and just dream...no buying, just dreaming.
6) Trade massages.
7) Read a book out loud together.
8) Play 20 questions.
9) Take a drive and explore a new part of the country or city.
10) Wrestle. (Stewy won't wrestle with me, so this is just a dream so far...) :(
OK, that's all for today...I'll try to think of a few more...man, we haven't done some of these in a long time. Oh, we also really like dreaming about home renovations together...but that can get costly!

(nerd alert...)
We even have gone to the library together and looked at magazines and books and music! It is a fun and free evening out! We have a beautiful library here that faces Burnaby mountain and is funky and modern - we love it!
We are so geeky that sometimes we go looking online together for new things to download to our daytimers (I say that because T does Palm and I do PocketPC!) and spend the evening learning about something new together. Or maybe we'll research some electronic thing online together or design something on the computer together.
We tried an art gallery but Todd just mocked all the art and the 'fruitcakes' looking at the art. LOL
It usually costs more than $10 :) but we love grocery shopping together too.
We love touring show homes and lottery homes (I guess that's a big city thing though).
Great ideas Taralee! We like lots of those activities too. Being childless I think date night is pretty much every night, so sometimes we don't make an effort to think about these things!
And the wrestling one cracked me up - you should see Stew and Dad wrestle - it is really something - Mom has to go hide her eyes upstairs. (Did you know Dad coached high school wrestling many many years ago?) Funny.

Forget wrestling Stewart - I'd pay money to see you take on the 1 Thumbed Terror...

Thanks for all the ideas! We went and bought curtains today using gift cards we received for Christmas. It's always fun to spend someone else's money. Then we found a luggage store with a big sale, and as we're planning an international vacation this year, we bought a gigantic suitcase for a ridiculously low price. :)
Grocery shopping together is fun, too, especially when he pushes the cart! tee hee!

Taralee, what is up my mysterious cousin-in-law whom I have yet to meet!!! You sound like a great gal, though! Plus, we are kindred teaching spirits, so that is an excellent thing, as well.
I miss Stewy! What a guy. I'm going to have to track you two down this summer!
Keep up the great work with the blog- I had fun reading through your posts. Although, I need the adaptive dimension for your dating tips...how does this work when you are a bizillion miles apart?!
Anyway, I'll see ya this summer! Send a what is up to my good friend S-Dawg.

Wow! Thank you all for stopping by!
Bonnie: We enjoyed looking at houses on our Tuesday date. We also loved just playing twenty questions on the couch. I know that when you're kidless, every night can seem like date night...which is why I should start thinking of more special things to do...*thinking, thinking* I'm sure Stewy would love to go to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, but just getting there would break the $10 limit...unless we were already IN Winnipeg...but then there are the other date ideas like the Zoo, the Forks, taking a water taxi down the river, hit a festival, explore hotels (I LOVE this one! I'm not sure why, but I just love checking out the different pool areas and sitting in the entrance people watching). Speaking of people watching, sit in a mall or airport sometime and just watch the different range of emotions. Although this is sometimes really sad, especially in airports.
Tim: I think I'd pay money to see that, too! No, I'm not good, I just grew up wrestling my dad and it was always a hoot.
Jen: Spending gift cards and presentation money was a tonne of fun post-wedding. It's just so fun to be able to pick out what you need and not have to figure out how you're going to justify it! We got a great Christmas tree this way!
Harmony: I'm so looking forward to meeting you! I read your blog very regularly, but just haven't laid out a comment yet. Shame on me. I'm so glad you did! I think you and Billy and Diesta are the only McMillan's I have yet to meet! I think that's pretty impressive considering how long I've been part of the family!
We'd love to meet up with you this summer...and as for dating ideas from great distances, I'm not so sure I have any. Do you ever rent the same movie at the same time and keep your MSN on and watch it together? My friend Jen and I used to sit on the phone and watch our favorite tv shows together. I know it doesn't sound very productive, but there was a certain comfort in doing the same thing at the same time.
All the best to you, and we'll see you this summer!
